About the Role

Our client, a well-established and forward-thinking planning consultancy, is seeking a Senior or Associate Town Planner to join their growing team in Bristol. This role will focus on land promotion, supporting landowners and developers in identifying, promoting, and securing planning permissions for strategic land opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner looking to take on a key role in project delivery while contributing to the continued growth of a highly regarded consultancy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage land promotion projects from site identification through to planning consent
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, Local Plan representations, and appeals
  • Promote sites through the Local Plan process, including call for sites and examinations
  • Undertake site appraisals, feasibility studies, and develop planning strategies
  • Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, consultants, and clients
  • Manage external consultants (e.g. transport, environmental, and design teams)
  • Provide strategic planning advice to landowners and developers
  • Monitor planning policy changes and assess implications for projects
  • Support business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities
  • Mentor and support junior team members (Senior level and above)

Requirements

  • Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • MRTPI qualified (or working towards for Senior level)
  • Proven experience in land promotion and strategic planning
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning system, particularly Local Plan processes
  • Experience managing complex planning applications and appeals
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Commercial awareness and client-facing experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Desirable Skills

  • Experience appearing at Local Plan examinations or hearings
  • Established network within the South West planning and development sector
  • Leadership experience (Associate level)
  • Track record of contributing to business development and winning work

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
