Opportunity:

A leading international consultancy is seeking Assistant Flood Risk Consultants to join its growing flood risk management team in Swansea and Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to develop a technical profile in flood risk management, working on high-profile UK and international projects.

The role offers exposure to hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects, including 1D and 2D models for rivers, surface water, and sewers. You will have the chance to work collaboratively with international teams, develop client relationships, and mentor junior staff.

Responsibility:

  • Develop and agree scopes of services and project plans.
  • Lead and undertake hydraulic and hydrological modelling using tools such as Infoworks ICM, ISIS-TUFLOW / ESTRY-TUFLOW, or Flood Modeller.
  • Carry out flood risk analyses for planning, development, and design projects.
  • Produce high-quality client-facing reports and presentations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, supporting their technical development.
  • Lead bidding and work-winning activities, contributing to business development.
  • Ensure quality assurance through reviewing outputs and adhering to project procedures, including financial and change control.
  • Support project managers and directors in delivering strategic infrastructure projects and internal consultancy services.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Geography, Science, or Civil Engineering; MSc or postgraduate qualification desirable.
  • Experience in 1D-2D modelling using Infoworks ICM, ISIS-TUFLOW / ESTRY-TUFLOW, or Flood Modeller.
  • Experience conducting flood risk analyses for planning, development, and design projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK hydrology; international hydrology experience desirable.
  • GIS analytical skills in ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or R; VBA or similar scripts advantageous.
  • Experience developing and leading technical teams, mentoring junior staff.
  • Proven track record in project delivery, meeting client KPIs, and maximising commercial performance.

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
