Opportunity:

A growing ecology consultancy is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to strengthen their Birmingham team. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse range of projects across regeneration, property, transport, and public sectors. While primarily based in the Birmingham region, the role may involve collaboration, travel, and inter-office work with other regional teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist looking to progress their career within a supportive and professional team, delivering high-quality ecological services to a portfolio of major clients.

Responsibility:

  • Undertake ecological surveys and desk-based studies to a high standard.
  • Prepare technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, and BREEAM 2018 assessments.
  • Contribute to Environmental Statement (ES) chapters and support the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process where required.
  • Provide pragmatic, commercially aware ecological advice to clients.
  • Conduct technical review of reports prepared by others.
  • Work autonomously while collaborating effectively with colleagues across regional teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of fee proposals for ecological work.
  • Ensure compliance with conservation legislation and protected species licensing, including maintaining relevant survey/handling licences.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in ecology or a related discipline.
  • More than one year's experience in ecological consultancy or a closely related sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
  • Experience in linear infrastructure and property development projects desirable.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Understanding of the EIA process and contribution to ES chapters advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently with strong communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence or the ability to travel to sites using public transport.

Urban Land Institute.

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
