We are MP Smarter Travel, a growing London-based sustainable transport consultancy. Our areas of expertise include air quality monitoring, zero emission freight, travel planning, public realm schemes, and engaging with schools, businesses and the public about sustainable transport. Our key clients are local authorities, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and larger consultancies in the London and the home counties.

We are looking to recruit a Graduate Sustainable Transport Consultant on a three-month contract with potential to extend and/or make permanent. In the role you will manage and deliver a project to administer travel mode split surveys at schools in central London, and contribute to a variety of projects including: air quality monitoring, school travel plans, and engagement with businesses to promote cycling and air quality initiatives.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in the sustainable transport sector and gain project management experience in a supportive environment. All of our sustainable transport consultants started as graduates and now manage their own project portfolios.

About you:

We are looking for an outgoing and confident 'people person' to speak with large numbers of schools and businesses by phone and in-person to persuade them to participate in our clients' sustainable transport / air quality programmes. You will have excellent spoken and written communications skills, organisational skills and attention to detail. You will also be able to demonstrate an interest in transport, air quality and/or the built environment. A background in sales, customer service or survey delivery is desirable. A degree-level education (or equivalent) is desired.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Lead on a project to collect travel mode split data from schools in central London by contacting schools, arranging to visit, and delivering in-class 'hands up' surveys.
  • Contribute to a variety of other projects including air quality monitoring, school travel plans, and engagement with businesses to promote cycling and air quality initiatives.
  • Lead on producing content for our website and social media accounts (optional responsibility)

  • Experience working with groups of children (desired)
  • Marketing experience (desired)

Urban Land Institute.

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
