Opportunity:

Are you an experienced Ornithologist or Ecologist with an avian interest? Do you like the idea of working a 4-day week but being paid as if you've worked 5? Are you a fan of long weekends? If so, this newest vacancy shouldn't be ignored! Our client is looking to bring in a Senior Ecologist with an Ornithology focus to either of their Birmingham or Manchester offices. You'll be joining a competent team of Ecologists with a strong sense of community, all of which have the added benefit of a 3-day weekend every week. Your specialist knowledge with birds will help you lead on exciting projects and oversee a variety of key tasks. As the newest Ecologist, you can expect to be involved in a range of developments, collaborating across multiple disciplines to attack nature-based problems, ensuring that no one work week is ever the same.

Responsibility:

As previously specified, your responsibilities will be focussed around both standard ecological practices and your expertise regarding birds. This means you will be planning and leading a variety of ecological surveys, including extended phase 1 species surveys as well as both breeding & non-breeding bird surveys when on larger working sites. Being a senior ecologist also means you'll be overseeing key elements like PEAs, HRAs, EcIAs and the implementation of mitigation strategies to ensure high-quality delivery to clients. This will be achieved in part by taking on a mentoring role, using your experience to guide more junior consultants and graduate members of the ecology team. Finally, your responsibilities will encompass communication, acting as a point of contact for clients, LPAs and statutory bodies and taking on active business development in order to win new projects.

Requirements:

To be considered for this Senior Ecologist role you will at the very least need to be an Ornithologist with experience carrying out breeding & non-breeding species surveys. Ideally you/ll have 3-5 years of experience working in an ecological consultancy environment in which time you will have gained a strong understanding of a range of survey and assessment techniques as well as the subsequent reports from the findings. Possession of protected species licenses and experience with area such as UKHabs and BNG are particularly advantageous. You will also be a member of a relevant professional body and in possession of a full Uk drivers license, with access to your own vehicle and a willingness to travel to sites as and when you are needed.
