MP Smarter Travel is a sustainable transport consultancy that specialises in working with businesses, local communities, and schools to support walking, cycling and other zero emission transport.

We are looking for a new Senior Consultant to join the team on a fixed term 1-year contract. You will be responsible for the management and delivery of a new and engaging project within Hertfordshire.

The project aims to build awareness of air pollution and the promotion of active travel amongst schools and the general public within three towns. Engagement will be multi-faceted, including:

  • Designing and delivering school workshops
  • Designing and building child-friendly healthy route maps
  • Running inter-school competitions
  • Monitoring and explaining different air quality levels
  • Creating social media content
  • Organising the creation of video content
  • Liaising with parish councils and local government

This is a fantastic opportunity for a consultant looking to take ownership over a large-scale and varied project, progress their career and work as part of a growing, enthusiastic team.

Project work will require you to attend schools and meetings in Hertfordshire. The remainder of project hours will be delivered primarily from home with occasional visits to the MP Smarter Travel London office. Should you happen to have any spare hours during the working week, these will likely be filled with tasks from other MP Smarter Travel projects, and may include calling schools, businesses or reviewing documents.

This role will involve you working largely independently. You will receive ongoing support from a line manager, account manager and MP Smarter Travel's operations and HR teams. A key contact at the council will also be available to support project delivery. As an MP Smarter Travel team member, you will be very welcome to join social events and relevant team meetings.

About you:

We are looking for an outgoing and confident 'people person' who is comfortable speaking with large numbers of students, businesses and decision makers by phone and in-person to persuade them to participate in the project.

You will have excellent spoken and written communications skills, organisational skills and attention to detail. We value all the following experience:

  • Previous experience of working with schools or in education
  • Previous experience in marketing or public relations
  • Experience of project delivery
  • Experience of project management
  • A background in sales, customer service or survey delivery
  • Experience monitoring and analysis project outcomes
  • A degree-level education (or equivalent)

Role and responsibilities:

  • Take ownership over this 1-year project
  • Work in conjunction with relevant account manager to deliver high quality outputs
  • Manage project hours and budget
  • Manage client relations & touch base regularly with the relevant account manager
  • Manage a small number of external contractors e.g a graphic designer
  • Qualify and share leads for additional projects in the area
  • Support the team in delivering high quality project reports

Urban Land Institute.

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
