I am very excited to bring to you an opportunity to join one of the UK's most reputable house builders, with two of their offices located in North West Kent and Middlesex, looking to recruit multiple Assistant Planners to join the Division's Land department.

The Role

The Assistant Planning Manager will report to the Land/Planning Director and will be responsible for advising the land teams on all aspects of planning policy and development control affecting land acquisition. This role is also responsible for the management of strategic land.

Principle accountabilities of the Planner role include:

  • Identify and advise divisional land teams of potential development sites that may become available through the prevailing/emerging planning policy.
  • Provide day to day planning advice to land teams primarily on residential schemes but also mixed-use developments.
  • Promote sites through the Local Plan system and keep landowners/agents as well as the divisional management team advised of progress.
  • Prepare Planning Reports on land to be acquired by the division identifying any planning/commercial risk.
  • Negotiate with landowners, Local Authority officers and the community regarding residential development proposals.
  • Formulate planning strategies in order to obtain a planning consent in a timely manner within an appropriate deadline.
  • Negotiate S106 agreements with the Land Team as appropriate in accordance with the Company's requirements.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications including planning conditions with accompanying scoping and screening opinions.
  • Attend Planning Committee Meetings and public consultation events
  • Manage expenditure and prepare budget costs for planning application/appeals.

Experience, Qualifications and Skills needed:

  • 12 months plus experience of working as a Planner, ideally in residential.
  • Experience of addressing the general public as well as council officers and committee members in a public forum
  • Planning or Surveying Degree or above or equivalent is desirable
  • RICS or RTPI
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse range of people
  • Good administration skills
  • Works effectively to deadlines and competently works on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficient IT skills.

In partnership with Urban Land Institute we are able to play an imperative role in creating a larger and more diverse pool of candidates within the planning & property professions. Working in schools we take part in the Urban Plan Educational workshops programme, which has now reached more than 2,500 pupils in 100 schools since its launch. Alongside more than 200 industry volunteers engaged across the country, we provide invaluable industry & careers advice to students while guiding them through their workshops and helping judge their presentations.
