This year has been full of firsts for us as a company, the latest was the annual Property Conference; MIPIM. Mattinson Partnership was well represented this year with myself, our Director David and Head of Architecture Freddie Bell all going along for the fast-paced, 4-day event. Now MIPIM isn't just a sunny week in the south of France, Thursday proved that by supplying one of the worst rain storms I've witnessed.
What did we learn...
Comfortable shoes are a must! - People had advised me to take comfy shoes, I'd seen it on countless articles and posts by others offering advice on MIPIM. When you break down the numbers of steps it truly does speak volume, we averaged 50,000 steps over the duration of the event!
Don't fill your diary! - Some of my best 'meetings' were chance encounters. Be it waiting at a bar, or somebody sitting adjacent to me at a restaurant or a familiar face on the train home on Saturday, there really is nothing like it.
10 Minutes is all you need! - It only really takes 10 minutes to have a meaningful chat about business or have a catch up with an elusive contact. Both parties are busy and MIPIM is the place for a lot of efficient but productive, 10 minute meetings.
Bring an umbrella! Thursday showed us just how bad the weather can get, from beautiful sunshine to rain in a matter of hours. - The ride to MIPIM bus was rather wet!
London to Cannes is a long way. It's hard to not be impressed by those who cycled from London to the south of France in a matter of days, a few of whom I congratulated first-hand.
If you haven't been to MIPIM before and you're considering it, I couldn't recommend it enough! It truly is like nothing else, you can walk down the street and notice faces you've met before or spoken to over the phone. Almost everyone there is happy to have a chat about what you do and the services you provide. See you next year?!
We will definitely be going again next year and hope to continue working with our clients that we met and to grow our early relationships with new contacts. If we missed each other at MIPIM, please feel free to reach out to me. I joined Mattinson Partnership in December 2017. Prior to that, I worked for a Property Specialist Recruitment firm, primarily focussing on Property Management. My background and education revolving around coaching gives me a unique consultative style of recruitment. Outside of work I can be found in 3 places; the rugby pitch, the gym or anywhere that sells good food.
