Flooding – What’s the risk?

flooding-ukIf I told you that 1 in 6 homes in the UK are at risk of flooding, would you know all the ways it can affect you? Or how to prepare for it if it does happen?

As I’m sure you’re aware, flooding can be caused by variety of factors, whether its heavy rain fall, blocked drains, the sea and rivers, burst water pipes or even water rising out of the ground. It affects 5.2 million homes across the UK, and just like sea levels; that number is rising.

Did you know that 40% of people in the “High Risk” category, are not even aware that their homes are at risk of flooding? That is a very high percentage, however if you’re willing to take the proper precautions, you’re more likely to keep your home safe and dry. Check below whether your home is at risk with the following links - GOV & Natural Resources

Everyone uses the phrase “better to be safe, than sorry” – so if you’re at risk, you need to at least be prepared, as it’s going to help keep you and your family safe. Use this link to ensure you’re doing the right things; (I didn’t even consider all of these…)

Here the National Geographic explains the Do’s and Don’ts in the event of flooding. Following these steps will ensure yours and your family safety.

NicoleI joined Mattinson Partnership in March 2017 as a Trainee Consultant, working alongside Ruth on the Environmental desk. Since leaving college, I worked as an administrator in a range of different industries, from airline to motor trade, to legal – you name it. I was promoted to Consultant in Autumn of 2017 and now specialise in recruiting within the water management sector. Outside of work you’ll usually find me with a brush in my hand, whether it be for makeup, or for a canvas (whilst simultaneously sipping on a Gin & Tonic)
