We are currently working with an international firm of engineering, management and development consultants who employee staff in numerous countries worldwide.

This is an excellent career opportunity for Tunnel Engineers with proven Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) experience to work on our client’s prestigious projects.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the Tunnel Engineer will be responsible for the detailed SCL site activities on shift at one SCL station or shaft. This includes responsibility for monitoring the performance of the primary lining against the ground conditions encountered.

The principal duties are:

Support the SCL Inspector on shift with inspections during concurrent critical activities or temporary absence.
Attend the Shift Review Group (SRG) meetings and interface with SCL site staff from the Project Manager/Supervisor and Contractor.
Make regular inspections of SCL activities (once/shift).
Review Contractor’s SCL submissions, including Technical Requests (PTRs) and Method Statements.
Immediately inform the Senior SCL Engineer of any unexpected and potentially hazardous situations such as abrupt change of soil conditions, loss of ground, unusual ground movement or water inflow, or whenever else immediate action is required.
Review and maintain records of all SCL instrumentation monitoring results relevant to the SCL primary lining.
Review contractor’s SCL shift records, including material test results, face logs, progress, quantities.

SCL mining activities are anticipated to take place 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. To provide full coverage throughout the construction activity, SCL Tunnel Engineers will be expected to work shifts.

Qualifications / Experience:

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related subject.
Proven Experience in Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) design working for a consultancy.
Site based experience is preferable.
A sound understanding of geotechnical principles is a preference
Excellent communication skills to include both written and spoken English.
Preferably chartered or en route to chartership with the ICE or other relevant institution.
